Modeling Democracy at Home: An Approach for Family Life
Critical Topics in Parenting Live Webinar
As recent events have rocked our nation and left many of us questioning the health of our democracy, it occurred to us that at its core, PEP's parenting approach is about teaching democracy in the home. The first place where a person experiences democracy is in the family, as a child. With PEP's principles, children learn how to belong to – and function as – a group. If all goes well, they learn how to be a productive, contributing member, one who has an opportunity to have a voice in what happens to him or her, but also one who listens to the needs of others, and helps to figure out how all members can live in a way that is harmonious and fulfilling.
This webinar will feature the specific elements of PEP’s parenting approach that teaches and models democracy for our kids and in our families. We’ll cover the following PEP parenting tools:
- Listening to understand before being understood
- Putting structure to giving everyone a voice
- Problem-Solving
- And underlying everything – Mutual Respect
Registration includes access to a recording to watch later and handouts.
