Critical Topics in Parenting: Exploring Sexual Orientation & Gender Identity
Critical Topics in Parenting
For all parents. Your children are welcome to join the discussion, as well.
An increasing number of parents are seeking guidance on how to support their LGBTQ+ children, particularly through the process of exploring and affirming their sexual orientation and/or gender identity.
It can be a time of uncertainty and strong emotions for everyone, especially young people and their families. Finding sources of guidance and connecting with the right professionals when needed becomes a top priority.
Join us for a discussion with Washington DC-based Rainbow Families and a PEP Parent Educator to gain insight and hear personal stories from the perspectives of parents of LGTBQ+ children. Learn about resources for supporting children as they explore, question, and affirm their identity.
We will discuss:
- Why the coming-out process is so important and what to say and do to be a strong foundation for your child.
- How parents can serve as an ally for their child at school, with family & friends, doctors, sports, activities, and the broader community.
- Supporting your child’s emerging sense of self, appearance, name, or new pronouns.
