What Kids Really Need from their Parents During COVID-19

Critical Topics in Parenting

Join us Tuesday, September 15 at 8 pm ET for the third webinar in this free series, Critical Topics in Parenting.

After a spring and summer of unprecedented events, there has never been a more important time to consider what kids and teens need to thrive. While many kids may be feeling anxious, sad, disappointed, or angry, others seem fine or may even seem to be doing better. Parents, already weary and facing months of distance learning, restricted social life, and an absence of scheduled activities, worry about their kid's mental health, long-term development, and future.

In her most recent book, The Power of Showing Up, co-authored with Dan Siegel, Tina Payne Bryson shares the latest brain and attachment research and talks about the power of "showing up." Research has proven what kids need most, both in "normal" times and when facing uncertainty, is an adult in their life who consistently "shows up." Today, showing up for our kids may sound like a tall order, but it doesn't take a lot of time, energy, or money. Showing up means offering a quality of presence based on the four building blocks of a child's healthy development, the Four S's. Children need to feel safe, seen, soothed, and secure.

Dr. Bryson will discuss practical advice for supporting anxious kids, hitting the reset button on parenting, and creating a safe harbor at home for children of all ages. Using her trademark warmth and humor, she'll explore how our whole community can thrive this school year, while also preparing ourselves for whatever comes next.

NOTE: As of October 15, 2020, the video and audio recordings are no longer available for this webinar upon request from Tina Payne Bryson.
